Joba Chamberlain answered Joe Girardi's call on Friday night,
allowing three runs over six strong innings in a 9-5 win over the Red
Sox. Chamberlain was very efficient, throwing 52 of 86 pitches for
strikes, fanning six and walking just one. He retired the first 11
batters he faced until a Victor Martinez solo home run in the fourth
inning. Held the "Joba Rules" in recent starts, it was his longest
outing since Aug. 11.
"You get challenged a lot in life, and you have to look yourself in the mirror, see how you can make yourself better," said Chamberlain, who struggled for weeks. "It was good for me to realize."
Girardi seemed pleased with the results:
"The expectations are extremely high on him, and he's had to make adjustments and change some of the things he's done. It's learning. It's maturing. And tonight, he showed us what he's capable of doing."
Chamberlain lines up for a final tune-up against the Royals next week. The Yankees probably won't need him to start in the ALDS, but if they manage to advance to the ALCS, he will most certainly be called upon.

Joba was great, lester is a piece of trash so who cares if he is ok or not, let the red cross pick him up off the field
What a stupid comment! As a lifelong Yankee fan (I go back to 1964), I usually hate anything or anyone related to the Red Sox. But Lester is a story who trancends rivalries. He is a young man who battled life threatening cancer 3 years ago, and has become one of the best young pitchers in all of baseball. He is among the league leaders in ERA, WINS, WHIP and Strikeouts, and has shown the ability to rise to the occasion in big games. (Last game not withstanding).
To call him a piece of trash is beyond comprehension. It is posts like yours that make reading these blogs offensive at times. By the way, names are supposed to be CAPITALIZED dummy. You obviously are a MENSA graduate - I can tell by your eloquent one sentence post.
I'd love to have Lester on our team. He has already become what we can only hope Joba will be.
Class is something that not all f us have; but to come down so hard on Lester show a complete lack of class. As a lifelong Yankee fan I applaud Lester for overcoming the adversities that he has had overcome. Unfortunately some out there only see life through the lens of wins and loses. Those people are referred to as losers.
