One of the worst things the Mets ever did -- and believe me, there's a long list to choose from -- was to go wacky with their uniforms in the past few years. Those blue things from the 80s were bad enough, but the black caps and alternate jerseys they introduced a few years ago are more or less an abomination. Less offensive are the solid home whites, but they're still sub-optimal. Their original uniforms -- a mix of Yankee pinstripe, Dodger blue and Giants orange in honor of their New York Baseball forerunners -- was always elegant and never in need of an upgrade.
Thankfully the Mets are bringing back the Seaver-era classics next season, at least as an alternate, retro thing. Here's hoping that they go 10-0 or whatever in the new duds and make the change permanent.
If you look like a winner you'll play like a winner, right? I mean, the Astros and Rockies have never won a World Series, have they?

If they bring back Seaver, I will watch them again.
May GOD have mercy on the Mets. Pray for them, they need it.
Not to mention that SNY is bringing Keith Hernandez back to the booth with Gary and Ron. I'm no Mets fan, but that broadcast team is one of the best around.
The problem is they couldn't even get this right; instead of properly throwing back to the original uniforms, they're just taking the current home pins and changing the the white to a cream, without removing the ugly black dropshadow. Compare this Seaver jersey to the one you posted a pic of above. The black makes the new "retro" a cheap imitation.
But the d-backs did win a World Series in those purple, green and blue uniforms, so that shoots down your whole have-to-look-like-a-winner argument. Then they changed direction and copied the Astros new red uniforms, which I presume they got at a step discount, because it defies all other logic.
Isn't "retro" another word for "backwards"? It fits, don't it?
Thats really cool...any other thoughts?
